Heart of the Buddha's Teaching

with Rachel Nixon & John Meyer
Six Tuesdays, May 21-June 25, 6-8 p.m.

"Once the door of awareness has been opened, you cannot close it."
- Thich Nhat Hanh

Join us for a six-week course based on The Heart of the Buddha’s Teaching: Transforming Suffering into Peace, Joy, and Liberation by Thich Nhat Hanh, a Vietnamese Buddhist master, poet, and peace activist. In his clear, gentle, and accessible style, Thich Nhat Hanh introduces us to the core teachings of Buddhism and shows us how they relate to our daily lives.

Each class will begin with mindfulness instruction and practice. We will take the time to sit and be together, getting to know our minds and hearts. Our practice will also include contemplations on joy and compassion. The heart of each gathering will include a discussion of the week's readings, with an opportunity to explore the teachings in pairs, small groups, and a full circle. The key topics for exploration include: The Four Noble Truths, The Noble Eightfold Path, and The Three Jewels. We will also take time to get to know and honor Thich Nhat Hanh, global spiritual leader and peace activist.

Everyone is encouraged to bring questions, ideas, concerns, and curiosities to the group each week. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming of everyone’s experience.

Level: Everyone is welcome, including beginners and advanced practitioners.
